The operational experiences from the war in Ukraine show that the fight against obstacles in the future will regain importance. With the Keiler Next Generation (NG), RHEINMETALL is presenting a new armored breakthrough vehicle for fast obstacle clearance in combat at EUROSATORY 2024.
The highly protected and mobile Keiler NG ABV is equipped with a mine plow, a mine clearing charge, and a magnetic signature duplicator. This combination enables the Keiler NG to break through deep enemy cover in any terrain.
The Pearson mine plow, with a width of over four meters, allows for a mine clearing speed of up to 250 meters per minute on unstable ground. For solid ground, the rocket-propelled mine clearing device (MICLIC) "Plofadder" from RHEINMETALL Denel Munition is available. This system is capable of creating breaches of 160 meters long and nine meters wide in minefields and obstacles. Fired in an overlapping manner, the two Plofadder systems of the Keiler NG alone can overcome minefields up to a depth of 250 meters. The integrated lane marking system marks the created lanes for follow-up forces even during day or night. Thanks to the quick-change interface at the frontend, the ditch plow can quickly be replaced with a dozer blade. This allows the Keiler NG to clear tank obstacles, fill trenches, or create positions and prepared positions if needed. Additionally, it has an integrated crane to carry out modifications, supply replenishments, and modify itself. For self-protection, the Keiler carries the Quick Obscuration System (ROSY) and the remotely controlled weapon station Viper 12.7.
The crew of the Keiler NG consists of two soldiers. The possibility of remote operation is already considered in the system design, as well as the equipment with an active protection system and integration into the digitized battlefield.
The Keiler NG is based on the chassis of the engineer tank Kodiak and therefore belongs to the Leopard 2 family. This contributes to the high agility of this 63-ton platform: Maximum speed 65 km/h - climbing capability 90 centimeters - slope ability 60 percent - trench crossing capability more than 2.50 meters. On the other hand, the affiliation with the Leopard family has a positive effect on interoperability, logistics, and training. Existing Kodiak engineer tanks can be converted into a configuration similar to the Keiler NG using equipment kits, while existing Kodiak certifications expedite the operational readiness of the Keiler NG. HERE you can find all the data on the New Generation Keiler.
The Keiler NG can still be visited today at booth E115/F115 on the outdoor area of the Paris fair.
