Elbit Systems presents COAPS-L, a new electro-optical payload for intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance (ISTAR). COAPS-L is a miniaturized configuration of the company's Commander Open Architecture Panoramic Sight (COAPS), which is deployed worldwide on board main battle tanks and armored fighting vehicles (AFVs).
The new payload will be showcased for the first time during Eurosatory as part of Elbit Systems' exhibition (Hall 6, D567) and will be integrated on board an unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) as part of the Roboteam presentation (Hall 5B, A-35B). With its small dimensions and weight of only 40 kg, COAPS-L provides ISTAR capabilities at the AFV level to light platforms such as tactical vehicles, UGVs, and surface ships. The COAPS-L payload can be used either as an independent ISTAR payload or in combination with the weapon station of the respective platform.
The highly stabilized COAPS-L features either a mid-wave infrared channel (MWIR) or a long-wave infrared channel (LWIR), a thermal imaging channel, a high-resolution HD color daylight camera, an eye-safe laser rangefinder, and an automatic target tracking system that supports ISTAR capabilities with a range of 360 degrees day and night, on the move and at standstill. In addition, COAPS-L features video analytics with artificial intelligence that enables automatic target detection and classification, video motion detection, and enhanced image processing. The open architecture of COAPS-L also supports integration into command and control systems and other onboard subsystems.
