EUROSATORY 24: The HITBIRD by B&S Tech

06/16/2024By Redaktion

World premiere at Eurosatory 2024: The B&S Tech on Target from Neustadt in Schleswig-Holstein presents its innovative drone system HITBIRD for the first time at Eurosatory 2024. The new high-performance drone family combines high payloads, high speeds, and cost-effective mass production.

All HITBIRDs are designed as flying wings using innovative lightweight aluminum construction, providing excellent flight performance with high payloads and low weight.

Depending on the propulsion system, cruising speeds of up to 650 km/h are possible. The current version with a piston engine and push propeller achieves cruising speeds of up to 250 km/h and a final approach speed of about 350 km/h.

The first available models are the HITBIRD 175, 350, and 700, each corresponding to the wingspan in centimeters. The HITBIRD 175 allows a payload (including fuel) of 7 kg, the HITBIRD 350 of 35 kg, and the HITBIRD 700 of 130 kg.

Thanks to its efficient aerodynamics, for example, the HITBIRD 700 with an internal or external payload of 80 kg can cover mission profiles with a range of up to 1,500 km and a flight time of up to 10 hours. The empty weight is only 60 kg. 2 wing hardpoints would even allow a maximum of 60 kg each of external payload!

The design and construction of the UAV family are consistently geared towards mass production. This can be highly automated since no mold construction is required. This makes design modifications easy to implement. The low system costs enable completely new applications in the field of saturation attacks with high combat loads. This applies to use as cluster munitions, for drone hunting, reconnaissance, or with air-to-ground or air-to-air effectors. It can also be cost-effectively used for target engagement.

Depending on the HITBIRD variant, a variety of payload options can be installed. The underwing hardpoints allow the following options:

  • Air-to-air missiles
  • Air-to-ground missiles
  • Mine loading systems
  • Bombs
  • Machine guns

In addition, the following examples of payloads are possible:

  • Optoelectronics for reconnaissance and target marking
  • Electronics for electromagnetic reconnaissance and/or disruption
  • Electronics for relay systems with a range of 300 km each
  • Homing and warheads for loitering munitions missions
  • Hard-kill upgrades for drone hunting

The proprietary AES-256 encrypted flight control and data transmission, GNSS-independent navigation, and swarm-capable JTAC mission management with multi-operator option are offered for all HITBIRDs. This minimizes training efforts for all models, mission profiles, and types of operations.

The HITBIRDs can take off from unpaved runways, and the HITBIRD 175 and 350 are also capable of catapult launches. All three HITBIRD variants will be available from 2024.

About B&S Tech on Target GmbH:

For more than 30 years, the two owners Andreas Babbe and Jens Sager have been successfully developing and producing components for aviation and other complex, dynamic technology fields. B&S now combines this expertise in a team with extensive knowledge in managing military and police manned and unmanned air operations, and a radically new approach to developing high-performance drones for cost-effective mass production. B&S has its own scalable development and manufacturing capacities.
