A nine-man team from the Cobra Special Forces Command emerged victorious in a comparison competition last week in Munich, outperforming teams from German-speaking special units.
“Our police force is characterized by high performance, great commitment, and extensive knowledge - from the police station to the anti-terrorism command,” said Austrian Interior Minister Gerhard Karner following the EKO Cobra team's victory last week. "The Cobra once again proved this in Munich, I congratulate the team on first place."
In nine events, the EKO Cobra team placed first four times and second three times. Thus, the team from Wiener Neustadt secured first place in the overall standings, well ahead of the second-placed team. The EKO Cobra had to demonstrate their skills in events such as strength-endurance, shooting, rope techniques, tactics, driving skills, and swimming.
The comparison competition between German, Austrian, and Swiss special units takes place every four years, alternating between the SEK South Bavaria and SEK North Bavaria. The competition is a benchmark before the Combat Team Conference. The CTC is the unofficial world championship of police and military special units. It is hosted by the German anti-terror unit GSG9 and takes place every four years in Sankt Augustin, North Rhine-Westphalia. The EKO Cobra won the CTC in 2003 and 2015.
