The Ministry of Defense is enhancing its combat capabilities by rapidly procuring CV90 Nordic Edition armored personnel carriers through a joint European procurement initiative. This effort, involving modernization and unmanned systems, will strengthen the 13th Motorized Brigade's infantry, preparing for potential large-scale conflict.
To strengthen its combat capabilities, the Ministry of Defense is rapidly procuring armored personnel carriers of the type CV90 Nordic Edition. The armed forces are participating in this through the Nordic Initiative, the joint European procurement program.
The joint procurement of this model of the CV90, presumably the MKIIIC variant, offers advantages. It reduces costs and ensures more uniform procedures at the European level. Sweden is currently in contract negotiations with the manufacturer for the joint procurement of the CV90. The current CV90 combat vehicles are being modernized. A part of the production will take place in the Netherlands. More than 20 Dutch companies are involved as suppliers in the production.
The Ministry of Defense is also procuring unmanned systems. These are intended to enhance anti-tank capabilities and provide intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities. This increases operational effectiveness and reduces risks to military personnel.
The Ministry of Defense is assigning the new equipment to the 13th Motorized Brigade. This brigade will receive an additional armored infantry battalion, which will be stationed at the Nassau-Dietz barracks in Budel. Due to its high mobility and firepower, this battalion will enhance the composition of the infantry from heavy and medium infantry. Strengthening the infantry is essential in preparation for a possible large-scale conflict.
The combat vehicles currently in the Netherlands are already being modernized. To protect them from anti-tank missiles, they will be equipped, among other things, with an Active Protection System (APS).
Between 1 and 2.5 billion euros are available in the Ministry of Defense's investment budget for the purchase. For reasons of operational and commercial confidentiality, the quantities, delivery times, and budget will not be published. However, a battalion typically has 44 CV90.
