The Norwegian company DSG TECHNOLOGY is currently hoping to achieve a breakthrough with their innovative ammunition. The ammunition, named CAV-X, uses a specially developed and patented method to allow bullets to "swim" underwater after being fired. A specially shaped tip, as well as the ideal combination of speed, mass, and rotation, create an air bubble around the projectile, making the bullets stable in the liquid without fins. This results in greater range and penetration power underwater. The projectiles can be fired from conventional barrels, from air into water, and of course, underwater as well. The method can even be applied to larger calibers, currently up to 155mm.
