The French manufacturer of remotely controlled weapon systems, Hornet, and Europe's leading developer of robotics and autonomous systems, Milrem Robotics, are showcasing a new unmanned ground vehicle, the THeMIS Combat, at the DSEI Exhibition in London.

The system consists of the Milrem Robotics unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) THeMIS and the Hornet remote-controlled weapon system (RCWS). The Hornet was developed for the new French 4x4 and 6x6 armored vehicle program "Scorpion," but offers unique features for UGV applications.

"The Hornet features a specific cleaning system for the optronics and the ability to fold down the sensors to protect them from dirt and damage - crucial aspects for an unmanned vehicle operated remotely. It also comes with a protected ammunition feed," explains Jean Boy, CEO of Hornet.

The THeMIS Combat UGVs provide direct fire support for maneuvering forces and serve as a force multiplier, protection, and situational awareness for troops. The THeMIS is equipped with intelligent features such as waypoint navigation, follow-me, obstacle detection, and avoidance. These intelligent features are utilized only for mobility, the weapon system is always controlled by a human operator.

"Combat robotics is the future of warfare, it will significantly enhance the capabilities and survivability of units. THeMIS by Milrem Robotics is a great UGV for weapon system integration. With the pioneering Hornet, which has extremely innovative features, we have created an unmanned system that enables combat units to more effectively meet the current challenges on the battlefield," says Captain (ret.) Jüri Pajuste, Head of Defense Research and Development at Milrem Robotics.

Milrem Robotics sees itself as the leading European developer and system integrator for robotics and autonomous systems with offices in Estonia, Sweden, Finland, and recently in the Netherlands. The company is the leader of the iMUGS consortium, funded by the European Commission through the European Defence Industrial Development Programme (EDIDP) with 30.6 million euros for the development of a standardized European unmanned ground system (UGS).
