DSEI 2023: New Assault Rifle Platform by BERETTA DEFENSE

09/14/2023By Redaktion

New AR15 in town: At the DSEI 2023, the Italian company unveiled its Beretta NARP: the "New Assault Rifle Platform" was born in 2018 as a project, also thanks to collaboration with Italian special forces, and is based on five key principles: ergonomics, reliability, modularity, lethality, and reduction of noise and visibility signatures.

The general configuration, according to the manufacturer, is the result of a strategic decision: "If at first glance the NARP is stylistically and functionally connected to the AR-15, it is because this form is generally considered crucial today." One of the advantages of this configuration is the ability to mount compatible AR-15 stocks and pistol grips.

But do not be deceived by the configuration, the manufacturer challenges: The Beretta NARP is absolutely original and innovative and is protected by numerous patents. It operates mechanically with a short-stroke gas piston ("Tappet" style) in combination with a bolt carrier equipped with a recoil spring inside the housing and a multi-lug rotating bolt. Optional folding stocks can be used thanks to the recoil spring integrated into the frame. Additionally, the bolt carrier slides inside and is supported by a special rifle guide on the left side.

The controls are fully ambidextrous and ergonomically arranged around the trigger area, while the selector has three positions with a superior 180° rotation angle with the usual three settings: Safe, Semi-Auto, and Full-Auto. Interesting features of the Beretta NARP include the forend equipped with a quick-release lever, the detachable forend support/housing deflector unit, and the foldable and detachabl...

The Beretta NARP will have various barrel lengths: 7" in the PDW/CQB version and also in 7.62×35 (.300 AAC Blackout), 11" CQB/SBR-Short barrel rifle, 14-14.5" CARBINE, 16" IAR -Infantry Automatic Rifle, 18 inches as S-DMR (Sniper-Designated Marksman Rifle).

With a 14.5-inch barrel (368 mm) and a retractable (non-folding) stock, it measures 806 mm when collapsed and 888 mm when extended, the weight including the empty magazine is 3,300 grams, and the specified rate of fire is 700 rounds per minute. Other calibers like 7.62×51 NATO and 6.5 Creedmoor are planned for the future. HERE on the BERETTA page you will find all information about the NARP weapon system.
