DRONE DEFENSE: The Abrams in the Cage

05/28/2024By Redaktion

Yes, this is an Abrams tank. But it looks quite different because the Ukrainians have adapted it to their battlefield. The main threat there is no longer just anti-tank missiles, but FPV drones.

Because an Abrams is valuable, no efforts have been spared in building the tank quite extensively. Functional parts like the smoke grenade launcher are left out.

The hatch between all the grids actually has its own fold-down grid that is placed over the closed hatch. Whether this is a protective measure or already a hardship, we do not know.

Ukraine would not be Ukraine if they did not armor up the tank even more: Yes, this is an Abrams with Eastern European Kontakt ERA plates. Additional protection against gunfire, but the most important thing is the grid as a drone defense. Experts are already talking about drone-hunting FPV drones as the modern replacement for rocket-propelled grenades that modern tanks can scarcely defend against.
