DOCULUS LUMUS, a magical document inspection device from Austria, reveals hidden details in passports and banknotes using UV light and 15x magnification, making counterfeiting difficult.
DOCULUS LUMUS sounds like a spell from Harry Potter and is indeed quite magical. The Austrian company of the same name manufactures this mobile, optical document inspection device, essentially a magnifying glass with special lights.

The passport as we know it may seem simple and unassuming, but UV light is an important tool for initial inspection.

A passport is actually printed throughout with special ink that glows under UV light. In the Austrian passport, a landmark of the respective federal state is "invisible" printed on each side. For Vienna, it is “Schloss Schönbrunn”.

But that's not all, thanks to the 15x magnification of the magnifying glass, all details can be checked. The hidden UV images are not just simply printed in a flat manner, but in this case consist of small "A" letters and asterisks. Quite difficult to counterfeit, we claim.

Thanks to special lights on the underside, relief prints can also be made easily visible. The raised letters on the banknote cast actual shadows.
The DOCULUS LUMUS inspection device is available in Austria at SEC.TECH, also for private customers. For your country, please contact DOCULUS LUMUS.
