At this year's ENFORCE TAC we were able to take a look through the new digital night vision monocular from SIONYX, the OPSIN. Now it is available.
There is a dedicated product page for the digital OPSIN, also available in German, which provides detailed information. At its core, the OPSIN is a digital video camera that detects light up into the IR range. This allows you to see more in darkness than with the naked eye.
What is not clear is whether the OPSIN also has light amplification like analog night vision devices. In plain terms, if there is only a little light available, you can still see something with an analog night vision device, but not with the digital one.
We hope to get our hands on one soon to thoroughly test it. For those already convinced, it can be ordered now, OPSIN is available directly from SIONYX starting at 2,500 USD. Soon also available from retailers in Europe.
