The tank brigade 45 is growing

On February 4, the Multinational Battlegroup led by Germany was officially integrated into the 45th Armored Brigade "Lithuania" during a parade in Kaunas. This consolidation marks progress towards the brigade's full operational capability, with plans to increase its strength to around 5,000 soldiers by 2027.

On February 4, the Multinational Battlegroup led by Germany was subordinated to the 45th Armored Brigade "Lithuania" during a ceremonial parade in Kaunas (Lithuania). With this step, the brigade now has three combat units at battalion strength. Already a week earlier, the 203rd Armored Battalion from Augustdorf and the 122nd Armored Grenadier Battalion from Oberviechtach were assigned to the brigade in Veitshöchheim. "We are on plan and the growth of the brigade is a clear sign to our Lithuanian friends: We stand by your side, whatever it takes!" said the Inspector General of the Army, Lieutenant General Dr. Christian Freuding. About 1,500 soldiers from Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Croatia, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Germany took part in the parade.

During the public parade in downtown Kaunas, Brigadier General Christoph Huber, commander of the 45th Armored Brigade "Lithuania," took command of the Multinational Battlegroup Lithuania. This is another significant step towards the brigade's full readiness and combat capability.

About 1,200 German soldiers are already stationed in Lithuania. By the end of 2027, the 45th Armored Brigade "Lithuania" is expected to grow to around 5,000 soldiers as well as civilian employees. The 122nd Armored Grenadier Battalion and the 203rd Armored Battalion will initially remain at their locations in Germany until the infrastructure in Lithuania is completed and will temporarily participate in exercises and training in Lithuania.
