The trade fair for the material

TECHTEXTIL 2026 will showcase innovative protective textiles for defense applications, emphasizing the need for smart and multifunctional materials. Between innovation pressure and series capability, the TECHTEXTIL 2026 showcases market-ready protective textiles for defense applications and more. EU defense spending reached a peak of around 381 billion euros in 2025. The importance of textile innovations in this context is highlighted by the Work Programme 2026 of the European Defence Funds: it defines "Smart and multifunctional textiles" as its own thematic area. The TECHTEXTIL translates this need into industrial practice. From April 21 to 24, 2026, more than 10 percent of the over 1,500 exhibitors in Frankfurt am Main will present material innovations for protective textiles.

For product developers and OEM manufacturers, the performance of personal protective equipment is determined deep within the textile value chain. Materials that ensure ballistic protection, flame resistance, and extreme durability are in demand—without compromising on comfort and ergonomics. At the same time, regulations such as the PFAS restrictions are increasing the demand for alternatives to water, oil, and dirt-repellent finishes.

For procurement officials, buyers, and technical managers at system providers, industrial feasibility comes into focus. They require market-ready materials and textile components that can be processed in compliance with standards, reproducibly, and in reliable quantities—such as for ballistic protection systems or CBRN protective clothing.

Additionally, the TEXPROCESS connects the finishing and industrial processing with around 200 exhibitors in Hall 8.0. Together, both events unite more than 1,700 exhibitors at the Frankfurt fairgrounds.

The technological framework for this industrial scaling is provided by the TECHTEXTIL Forum. With practical insights from NASA experts and focuses like "Textile Intelligence" and "Resilient Textiles," the platform addresses the operational needs of the industry: smart features, material resilience, and the rapid translation from concept to scalable application.

The TECHTEXTIL 2026 will take place from April 21 to 24, 2026, in Frankfurt am Main.
