Incidents occur almost daily in the Baltic Sea: sabotage, espionage, and hybrid attacks - Russia is testing NATO. So the combat swimmers of the German Navy are preparing for the worst-case scenario in Eckernförde. However, there are hardly any places left where elite soldiers can train without being observed and suspicious drones are spotted repeatedly – especially at locations where Ukrainian forces are also being trained. So far, there is no law against drones being flown in these areas, nor is there a legal defense for disabling them.
So how can the State respond? The federal and state police are responsible for the protection of the Baltic Sea – but the combat swimmers cannot respond immediately to every incident. Is this a weakness that Russia is exploiting?
The three-part series "The Combat Swimmers" gives you insights into the special forces of the German Navy that you won’t find anywhere else. This is the second part of the documentary series.
