Germany has it tough. Everything is regulated. When it comes to weapons, the BKA takes a close look. For example, with a massage stick from Tchibo. It was classified by the authority as a "prohibited weapon."
Actually, the "knocking massage stick" from Tchibo was intended for "increasing well-being." With "springing blows," the 34-centimeter long stick with the steel ball at the end was supposed to loosen muscles. The relaxation aid went on sale at the end of 2019. But some may have stumbled over the martial appearance of the wellness product.
Now the BKA has officially determined: The stick not only resembles a weapon in appearance, but also in its structure. "The objective features of the construction of a striking and thrusting weapon, more like a bludgeon, are evident in the knocking massage stick, and overshadow the manufacturer's intended purpose," is the assessment in fine bureaucratic German. The stick is therefore classified as a weapon in a non-technical sense and banned.
For Tchibo, the classification that has now been announced makes no difference. "On December 27, 2019, we voluntarily discontinued sales after the Hamburg authorities asked us for a statement," the company explains upon inquiry. Thus, the massage stick was only on sale for just over a week during the Christmas business.
Even a coffee cup has already undergone scrutiny by the experts. But the cup with the brass knuckle handle can still be used at the breakfast table without concern. Form triumphs over function here. The handbag above is also legal.
