MegaBots recently introduced their mega robot Eagle Prime. This one is supposed to fight against the Japanese competitor Kuratas in August. The backstory: In 2015, the Japanese introduced their robot Kuratas. The Americans also introduced a huge robot named Mark II. However, just having a robot to drive around seemed a bit boring to them. So, they promptly challenged Kuratas to a competition. The Japanese, on the other hand, wanted a full-contact battle.
Therefore, MegaBots decided to build a new robot that could withstand this challenge. The result is Eagle Prime. Bigger and faster than its predecessor Mark II. Its weapons include a strong gripper arm and an oversized paintball-like cannon. A 480 hp V8 engine powers the robot. Weighing twelve tons and standing five meters tall, it cost around 2.5 million US dollars to develop and build. All this just to defeat the Japanese. Here is a comparison to the previous model – Eagle Prime is on the left side.It is controlled by human hands inside a cage.
Another view from the inside.
We can't wait and hope for a spectacular fight. Hopefully, it won't be the last and will usher in a new era of show robot battles, as the Chinese have also already built a robot and challenged the Americans and Japanese.
Who knows, maybe it won't be too long before giant robots find their way onto real battlefields. For now, it's still just fun, pretty big fun though.
