BUNDESWEHR:

The new Eurofighter helmet

12/11/2024

With the signing of the contract, both Germany and Italy are joining a development initiative of Great Britain for the procurement and integration of a new pilot helmet system for the Eurofighter. Three out of the four user states intend to use the Striker II helmet system in the Eurofighter in the future. Only Spain is currently considering an alternative solution.

Germany is contributing approximately 63 million euros to the project, coming from both the regular defense budget and special funds. The Budget Committee of the German Bundestag approved the project in mid-November.

With the introduction of the new avionic helmet system "Typhoon Future Helmet Striker II" from BAE Systems, the existing Striker I system is expected to be replaced from 2028 onwards. Striker II is designed to increase the operational readiness as well as the survival and combat capability of the Eurofighter fleet. It enhances the situational awareness of the pilots in the cockpit by offering improved digital display technology and the advantage of integrated night vision capability.

The helmet system consists of various functional components, including a night vision camera, various visors, and a breathing mask with a built-in microphone and headphones.

The completion of the development and integration work is scheduled for the year 2027, so that the procurement of the new helmet systems can immediately follow.
