On Friday evening, August 29, 2024, USSOCOM announced that it has selected Envision Technologies Miniature Advanced Rangefinder System - Light (MARS-L) for its Miniature Aiming Ranging Laser (MARL) program. The company will receive an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract (H9240324D0012) with a maximum order value of $81,000,000 and a minimum order guarantee of $5,000 for distance measuring lasers, spare parts, modifications, repairs, and training for new devices.

MARL enhances the capabilities of the Advanced Target Pointer/Illuminator Aiming Laser (ATPIAL/SAL) with a ranging function for assault rifles, designated marksman rifles (DMR), and light machine guns (LMG) with a system accuracy of 0 to 900 meters. Weapon-mounted rangefinders are commercially available as an interim solution, but they need to be further developed and integrated into visual augmentation systems (VAS) to achieve MAS-L objectives.
