The MG Snowmobile

The Dutch Marine Corps has introduced new special sleds, known as "Pulks," for transporting equipment during arctic conditions. Different sizes cater to specific roles within the squadron, providing a more efficient means of moving gear in snowy areas.

For Santa and his reindeer, this good thing is not intended. Who else would the Santa Claus have a discussion with using a machine gun. The Dutch Marine Corps has received new special sleds.

During the upcoming Joint Arctic Training on the northern flank in Norway, the first new sleds will be used at squadron level. "Pulk" is the English term for a short, hanging small sled and is pronounced "pooluk". The pulk provides Marines with good opportunities to transport their equipment.

Marine Corps units carry a lot of equipment under arctic conditions - (extra) clothing, fuel, and tents. They need all of this to survive in low temperatures. As a result, Marines carry a heavy backpack while moving on skis in snowy areas.

After various tests during previous winter training with sleds, four different types were chosen. The 120 cm General Pulk is suitable as a weapons platform. The 135 cm is the Operator Pulk and suitable for every Sierra operator, a 150 cm Pulk for every MAG assistant, and a 170 cm variant for the general use of the various squadrons' troops.

In collaboration with the Weapon System Management (WSM) section of the Group Commander Operational Units Marines (GC-OEM), the Clothing and Equipment (KL & OUT), and the Assortment Manager, sleds were purchased for a squadron. Two more deliveries will follow next year, so that from then on, a complete Marine Combat Group will be equipped with new sleds.
