Raising money for veterans? Alexander Sedlak, himself a veteran, is embarking on a 700 kilometer march across Germany to the Forest of Remembrance. For him, it is also a personal challenge. He told us in an interview why. The proceeds of the action will go to the Bund Deutscher Veteranen.

SPARTANAT: You march, we can pay you. What is the goal of your march?

Alexander Sedlak: Exactly, I will march around 700 km. I was diagnosed with PTSD last year. It has been difficult for me to set a goal for some time. The goal of the march is to arrive on time for the wreath-laying for the fallen soldiers at the Forest of Remembrance. Furthermore, I want to collect donation money throughout the year, which I then want to hand over to the Bund Deutscher Veteranen on site. The goal is also to inspire as many people as possible to commemorate our fallen comrades.

SPARTANAT: You are a veteran yourself. Where were you? What does it mean for you today?

Alexander Sedlak: That's right, I was in Kosovo in 2009 and in Afghanistan in 2011/2012. What does it mean to me? I was/am a soldier because it was natural for me to serve my own country. I am proud of what I and all my comrades, whether abroad or at home, have achieved - and still achieve today!

SPARTANAT: The Forest of Remembrance is the official memorial site of the Bundeswehr. What connects you with it?

Alexander Sedlak: Every single soldier who has fallen or died has died for his fatherland. Because one has fallen, others live. The Forest of Remembrance is the memorial for our fallen comrades. Comradeship exists even after death. So every single fallen comrade connects me with this place.

SPARTANAT: 700 kilometers on foot with equipment. Do you want to go alone or can you be accompanied?

Alexander Sedlak: I will march the 700 km alone. It is currently planned that comrades may be able to accompany me in individual stages or march with me. But as I said, everything is still in planning. I will announce information on this on my Facebook page.

SPARTANAT: How can people support you?

Alexander Sedlak: I am grateful for any support. Of course, donations for veteran assistance are the main focus! But I am also grateful for equipment, ideas for accommodations, food, etc.
