The NFM HJELM Helmet System is a groundbreaking Generation IV platform that integrates information technology for enhanced protection in the field. Its innovative design features an inner liner, lightweight shell, and the patented Edgemount with HASP technology, allowing precise attachment of equipment and cables. This system revolutionizes helmet technology, offering flexibility and security for soldiers in modern warfare.
The NFM HJELM Helmet System was developed as the first Generation IV ground infantry platform capable of integrating information technology while enhancing protection from threats in the field. The foundation of this system is an inner liner that comfortably and securely holds the helmet on the head. It is coupled with a lightweight shell made of the highest quality ballistic materials, and every gram of performance is optimized with state-of-the-art processing techniques.
What makes the HJELM a true Generation IV helmet is the Edgemount™ with Helmet Attachment System Pattern (HASP). Unlike traditional rails and Velcro, which offer limited attachment options and add additional material to the outside of the helmet regardless of whether devices are attached, the Edgemount with HASP technology can be integrated precisely where needed.
Most Generation III helmets use a rail system to attach additional equipment such as lights, visors, or communication headsets to the helmet. Rails are heavier and require more material than necessary when attaching few devices – which is often the case. NFM's patented Edgemount Attachment System provides the flexibility to attach only the desired additional equipment, so if a soldier only needs a flashlight for a specific mission, that's all the attachment hardware that is added.
The Edgemount Attachment System also allows for integrating cables and connectors into the helmet to enable the sensory enhancements of Generation IV. This gives soldiers and technology manufacturers the flexibility to integrate these devices in the optimal configuration for their function, while protecting the wiring and connectors from damage on the outside of the helmet.
Most helmets on the market today are equipped with Velcro for attaching devices such as ID patches, IFF devices, and cameras. The adhesive strength of hook and loop tape deteriorates over time, especially with repeated use and environmental influences, so even Velcro that was sufficient when new can fail over time. Its strength also depends on the compatibility of the Velcro on the counterpart, leading to an unreliable connection with the helmet.
The NFM HASP (Helmet Attachment System Pattern) replaces the Velcro loop with a structural network of high-strength composite materials, providing a stronger and more reliable system throughout the shell exterior. Devices can now be mechanically attached without fear of connection failure. The HASP is also detachable, making it easy to replace in the field if damaged.

For comparison, an old Viking helmet. Apart from the absence of Velcro and the material, it's almost the same, right?
