The guys at VZ Grips from the USA have come up with something new. Kubotans that look like pencils. The VZ No.2 Tactical G-10 Pencils are the perfect addition to your EDC kit. Due to their light weight and realistic appearance, they are easy to carry and conceal. Handcrafted in the USA from solid G-10, making them almost unbreakable and invisible to metal detectors. However, you can't write with them.
As much as we like this product, the question of legality arises. In the Austrian Weapons Act, it states under § 17 Prohibited Weapons: "The acquisition, ..., and the carrying (1.) of weapons, the shape of which is suitable for simulating another object, or which are disguised with objects of everyday use, are prohibited..." In our legal opinion, these pens definitely fall under this category. The German Weapons Act states the same in Appendix 2, Section 1: Prohibited Weapons, 1.2.2. So, be careful when buying such innocuous looking gimmicks. It can have serious consequences.
