KSK Symposium:

The straight-pull action EX 17 by STRASSER

09/25/2024

At the booth of 1MOA, two special guests could be found at the 9th KSK Armament Symposium: the Austrian high-quality weapons manufacturer HMS Präzisionstechnik has brought its STRASSER brand twice. One is the RS700 - which we are currently introducing to you with MAJOR FINDING in a multi-part review - and a very special second rifle: the EX17 is a multi-caliber sniper rifle that is said to have been introduced to an unnamed special unit.

The chassis of the WX17 is made of aluminum, supplemented with steel parts. Except for the barrel itself, everything comes directly from the manufacturer's workshop. The weapon itself weighs around seven kilograms and is 1.24 meters long (in 7.62 x 51).

The EX17 is straight-pull action, so you only need to move the bolt back and forth to reload. For precision shooters, this is a significant advantage because no torque affects the weapon's position when reloading. Grips can be attached to anything an AR15 also likes. The weapon is fed with the AICS magazine from Accuracy International. The match trigger leaves nothing to be desired for professional shooters, normally it has a trigger weight of up to 1.3 kilograms, which can also be reduced to 600 grams by the manufacturer.

Multi-caliber means that the barrel can be exchanged in minutes, along with the bolt head and magazine well. Base program includes 7.62 x 51 and .338 Lapua Magnum. The weapon does not need to be re-zeroed after the change, it hits. Other calibers are possible on special request.

All this results in a highly efficient sniper weapon, which can be fired in training with the cheaper caliber 7.62, while the rifle is switched to .338 LM in operations. And the suppressor naturally provides good noise and sound camouflage.

Here is the dynamic duo at a glance. We are currently presenting the also wonderful RS700 system to you separately in the review hands-on.
