Vienna: The attacker is being disarmed

11/06/2020By Redaktion

Work for the Cobra bomb disposal team on Monday evenings: Because the Vienna attacker Kujtim F. apparently had a bomb belt strapped on, two remote-controlled special robots had to be called in. They are also equipped with a camera. This allowed images of the (already dead at the time) attacker to be immediately transmitted to the police devices and state security was able to identify him quickly.

This made things move quickly: in the background, further accesses were immediately prepared. At the same time, the robot's X-ray device confirmed that Kujtim F.'s bomb belt was a fake (the unfinished charges for it were apparently found in the dead man's apartment during the search). The attacker himself could have caused even more damage, as he had over 100 rounds of ammunition in his bag.

There was indeed a special reason for the extremely rapid presence of special forces in downtown Vienna: Operation RAMSES would have been a huge crackdown on Islamists the very next day. Also interesting: the attacker apparently did not appear in this crackdown, although his full name is mentioned in the order for the operation, as well as his attempt to buy ammunition in Slovakia, which did not prompt the Austrian services to intervene against Kujtim F. preemptively.

Could the attack have been prevented? HERE is the full story of the Vienna terror night on SPARTANAT.
