Defective "Tactical Stand Alone Gen III" plates used by US SOCOM are being recalled, with runs 1-24 affected. Production adjustments made by Ceradyne, now producing "Gen IIIA" plates. Replacement plates made by Leading Technology Composites raise questions about manufacturer confidence.
In some "Tactical Stand Alone Gen III" plates used by the US SOCOM (the replica from Toy Soldier that we have already introduced to you), a defect has been discovered, leading to the recall of thousands of plates. According to information that has since been removed from the Ceradyne manufacturer's website, production runs 1-24 are primarily affected and will be completely recalled. Plates from runs 25-39 will remain in service and undergo a quick on-site test. Cyradine has adjusted the production process and is now producing plates labeled as "Gen IIIA." Interestingly, replacement plates for the defective pieces are being manufactured by Leading Technology Composites. It is unknown whether this is due to Ceradyne currently having no available capacity or if SOCOM has lost confidence in the manufacturer.
