Gear from Ukraine

RIPPERKON features equipment currently being used in the conflict in Ukraine. This video is not intended to be a comprehensive analysis, but rather to highlight observations and developments that have emerged in recent years in the field of personal equipment.

Important note from RIPPERKON: “I have never been to Ukraine myself, nor do I have any combat experience. The equipment shown here was put together for me by a veteran who fought there. In addition, I have analyzed many publicly available videos and reports and incorporated my own experience with tactical gear, product development, and many years of gear testing.”

The goal of this video is to provide an overview while also sparking a discussion with the community. RIPPERKONexplains, among other things, why friend-or-foe identification is now often more important than perfect camouflage and why modern tactics have led to significantly greater protection against shrapnel. Leaf suits and 3D camouflage suits from Ukraine are also now a topic of discussion.

Another focus is on personal gear. RIPPERKON presents a complete battle belt setup, a Ukrainian plate carrier, and its loadout, and explains why, in some cases, significantly more magazines, hand grenades, and medical supplies are carried today than many are accustomed to seeing in Western setups. We’ll also cover modern weight distribution systems between the battle belt and plate carrier, fragmentation protection, ballistics, tourniquets, IFAKs, magazines, dump pouches, and other equipment details. Of course, we’ll also discuss helmets, night vision, thermal imaging technology, carrying straps, rescue loops, and other gear items that are currently frequently seen in photos and videos from Ukraine.

This video is aimed at anyone interested in modern military gear, tactical equipment, current developments, and the background behind them. It’s meant to inform, spark discussion, and showcase different approaches—nothing more, nothing less.
