Good things don't need to be reinvented. Just copied. The GOLAN S-01, manufactured in Syria, is a heavy sniper rifle that is a copy of the Austrian Steyr HS .50. Unlike the HS .50, which uses .50 BMG NATO rounds, the GOLAN S-01 fires Soviet 12.7×108 mm rifle cartridges.

With this, the Syrian sniper has a maximum effective range of up to 1,600 m and is also equipped with a locally made scope. Both the rifle and scope are produced by the state-owned Defense Industries Corporation (DIC). More information about the GOLAN S-01 can be found on TFB.

The real HS .50 at Steyr Arms.
