When you hear about aerial combat, you inevitably think of moments like in Top Gun. Lots of action, but little sense behind it. However, one movie has pulled off intercepting an aircraft so realistically that even Task & Purpose had to ask experts in the field. The movie is called "Patlabor 2" and is an anime from 1993.
Although animated, the depiction in both image and text is extremely realistic. Even the radio communication in heavily accented English is completely correct from a professional standpoint, as it is spoken in English. The portrayal of the radar, as well as all commands and phrases used, is "spot on." So, if you want to see a correct and realistic representation of an interception maneuver, watch Patlabor 2.
