CAOS IFAK by CDHTAC

When it comes to IFAKs, the market is well saturated. Some are great, others less so, and some are, according to the Finnish gear manufacturer CDHTAC-FINLAND, "Temu Tactical." CDHTAC-FINLAND finds it strange that product images of medical bags often do not show filled pockets. This is especially true for compact models. Customers would certainly appreciate a visual reference of what the bag can actually hold. For this reason, they have designed and manufactured various sizes of CAOS bags themselves. CAOS stands for "Compact AmbidextrOus System." Compact, ambidextrous, and designed for versatility, this bag is equipped for any situation. We dived into the CAOS and took a closer look at the bag.

CDHTAC-FINLAND offers the following sizes: CAOS-I (IFAK), CAOS-I(s) (IFAK Shorty), CAOS-B (Bleeder), CAOS-B(s) (Bleeder Shorty). The dimensions of the bags are measured in PALS/MOLLE columns and rows as follows (W x H): 

• CAOS-I: 4 x 3
• CAOS-B: 4 x 2 
• CAOS-I(s): 3 x 3 
• CAOS-B(s): 3 x 2

Though they are different sizes, the concept and design of these bags are identical in overall construction.

We opted for the CAOS-B (4 x 3), with the following dimensions: 170 mm x 100 mm x 50 mm (W x H x D). The depth (thickness of the bag) can be stretched to a maximum of 60 mm. The B model was developed for 6-inch compression bandages, but by switching to the 4-inch version, space was created for a rescue blanket.

In making its CAOS, CDHTAC-FINLAND uses various materials such as Cordura 500 and PALSTEX laminate. In the colors Ranger Green and Black, PALSTEX is employed. The laminate made from the proven CORDURA meets NATO-STANAG-4370 standards for resistance to environmental influences and use in all climates. Even under rigorous conditions like cold, it shows no material breakage, and neither high temperatures nor strong humidity lead to delamination. 

The cuff is secured with a 25 mm quick-release buckle from the 2M Warrior series and can be removed by loosening these buckles and pulling on the release tab from the right or left side. It was intentionally decided not to provide the cover and the inner panel with Velcro for securing purposes.

Whether attached to MOLLE webbing or shooting belts, the CAOS-B holds.

The attachment system consists of PALS tabs that can be permanently removed if the user prefers Malice clips or similar. This requires ripping the seams and pulling out the mounts. Best done without damaging the cover. We did not do that.

The CAOS kit is indeed set to a minimal thickness of 50 mm. The cover is adjustable and can be made slightly wider if needed.

The back of the CAOS B has space for a rescue shears, which can be inserted there and always carried within reach.

The CAOS cover features six laser-cut slots as well as a bungee cord with a toggle. A tourniquet or a MOLLE/PALS-compatible bag can be attached there.

The user can customize the colored identification of their CAOS B as an IFAK themselves.

The bag consists of a cover with a quickly removable medical insert inside.

In total, there are three pockets for holding items. Thanks to the laser-cut slots, holes, and the bungee cord, the IFAK equipment can be individually adjusted in the panel.

A Velcro strap keeps the panel with the IFAK together in a good compact size.

Simple handling and operation of the CAOS B. The buckles are very tactile and can be quickly opened. 

The pull tabs make it easy to grip and pull out the inner panel even while wearing gloves.
