General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) has been awarded a contract by the German Bundesamt für Ausrüstung Informationstechnik und Nutzung der Bundeswehr (BAAINBw) for the supply of 80 highly protected EAGLE 6x6 vehicles for the Central Medical Service of the Bundeswehr. The vehicles are expected to be delivered between 2021 and 2024.
The EAGLE was selected in competition for the procurement project "Medium Protected Ambulance Vehicle." The goal is to bridge the gap between the light and heavy medical vehicle fleet of the Bundeswehr.
The EAGLE 6x6 is the newest member of the proven EAGLE vehicle family. In its 6x6 configuration, the vehicle provides ample space and storage for the transportation of patients, crew, and medical equipment. Due to its high logistical similarity with the EAGLE 4x4, the maintenance-friendly design of the vehicle, and the proven service concepts, operational costs are minimized. Germany is the second customer for this new EAGLE variant, following the Swiss Army. "We thank the Bundeswehr for the confidence they place in our EAGLE vehicle platform. As a reliable partner of the Bundeswehr, GDELS will deliver the vehicles on schedule, meeting cost and quality requirements," said Dr. Thomas Kauffmann, Vice President of GDELS.
The EAGLE is manufactured at GDELS facilities in Switzerland and Germany. The German production share is significant; a considerable portion of the work on the new EAGLE will take place in Kaiserslautern and Sembach, with dozens of German suppliers involved. "This contract will further strengthen our capabilities as a leading vehicle manufacturer and lead to a multi-million investment at our German vehicle maintenance center in Sembach," said Dr. Christian Kauth, Managing Director of GDELS-Germany. The Bundeswehr and federal police in Germany operate a fleet of nearly 700 EAGLE vehicles; the vehicle has already demonstrated its outstanding performance and reliability in various national and international missions.
The EAGLE is available in 4x4 and 6x6 versions and is one of the most modern protected wheeled vehicles in its class. The EAGLE has proven its efficiency and reliability in various military missions. With its reserves of power, the EAGLE offers an ideal platform to meet current and future requirements. In addition to excellent protection against mines and improvised explosive devices, the EAGLE provides a high payload and large transport volume in very compact dimensions. With its unique axle and drive system, the EAGLE offers superior off-road capability and exceptional road handling safety.
