The Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Use of the Bundeswehr is procuring new soldier radios for the Bundeswehr. After parliamentary approval, a framework contract was signed today with the joint venture Elbit, represented by the company Elbit Systems Deutschland. The contract includes the delivery of handheld radios and vehicle radios as well as the possibility of ordering additional radios, including related services and accessories required for operation. The first devices are expected to be delivered to the Bundeswehr in the first quarter of 2023. In the D-LBO program (Digitalization of Land-based Operations), integration measures will be carried out before the devices can be issued to the troops.
This contract represents another step towards implementing digital troop radios within the D-LBO program. The new soldier radios will partially replace the handheld radios of the SEM device family and also the UHF radios in the Infanterist der Zukunft system.
The D-LBO soldier radios use a Mobile Adhoc Networking waveform for transmission, through which voice, position information, and IP data can be transmitted in parallel, covering the communication needs of a dismounted infantry platoon, including group communication.
The delivery of the contracted devices is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
