Bundeswehr receives 30 Fennek JFST

07/07/2017By Redaktion

The Dutch procurement agency DMO (Defence Materiel Organisation), responsible for the bilateral project Fennek, is having 30 Fennek reconnaissance vehicles upgraded to the JFST (Joint Fire Support Team) standard for the German Army on behalf of the German equipment office (BAAINBw). The order includes upgrading to the latest configuration in the ground/ground and air/ground variants, as well as replacing obsolete components and making corresponding software adjustments. The total volume amounts to approximately 88 million euros. The Fennek reconnaissance vehicles will be upgraded to the Fennek JFST 1A3+ variant between 2018 and 2022 and handed back to the Bundeswehr.

The Fennek JFST is equipped with an extremely powerful observation equipment and communication system that allows for voice and data communication with the Air Force and Navy. Some of the tasks of this system include battlefield surveillance, target reconnaissance, and fire control. The Joint Fire Support Team consists of two vehicles, an artillery observer (ground/ground) and a Forward Air Controller (air/ground). HERE you can find more information about the vehicle.
