Bundeswehr: The first tents have arrived

The Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Use of the Bundeswehr (BAAINBw) symbolically accepted the first series system "Mobile Accommodation for Forces in Operation" from the manufacturer Kärcher Futuretech GmbH for the Bundeswehr at the end of June 2022. After signing a framework contract in April 2021 for the procurement of up to 19,000 tent systems, BAAINBw ensured the conception, construction, and timely delivery within 14 months. The first delivery of 2,500 tent systems contracted for 2022 has arrived at the acceptance depot, and the first troop units are already equipped as planned.

Despite globally disrupted supply chains, rapidly rising raw material and freight prices, and the scarcity of necessary resources, the procurement of the new tent systems ensures the timely equipment of troop units designated for the NATO Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF) in 2023. These units now have a modern equipment for accommodating up to 10,000 soldiers, including a reserve for preparatory training and exercises. Additional troop units will be gradually equipped with the new tents.

A tent system is designed to accommodate four people. Modular in structure, it can be customized for each specific mission. The core module consists of four one-person tents, each with a headlamp. An additional 4-person tent with four folding stools, a folding table, and four cots serves as a supplementary module to which the one-person tents can be attached. For food preparation, a modern multifuel cooker with accessories is provided. The hygiene/sanitation module offers sufficient privacy with a folding toilet and a privacy tent. Materials for waste disposal and recycling are also available.

The entire system is optimized in terms of volume and weight and can be loaded, transported, and set up by the soldiers themselves without additional technical support.
