Build bridges for Korea

09/30/2021By Redaktion

General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) and its partner, Hanwha Defense Corporation (HDC), have reason to rejoice: they have been selected by the Procurement Agency (DAPA) of the Republic of Korea to jointly produce 110 amphibious bridge vehicles for the Republic of Korea Army.

As part of the Korean KABV Program (Korean Amphibious Bridging Vehicle), the M3 Amphibious Bridging and Ferry System from GDELS is being adapted to meet the specific Korean requirements and is referred to as M3K. The M3K was selected in a demanding selection process. The M3 system offers high mobility, availability, and a seamless transition from land to water. As a bridge or as a raft with multiple parking spaces, the M3 can transport all known combat tanks in service. With its unique coupling device, the M3 also offers interoperability with other bridge solutions such as the SRB (Standard Ribbon Bridge)/FSB (Floating Support Bridge) and IRB (Improved Ribbon Bridge).

The M3 is the world's fastest and most powerful amphibious bridging and ferry system in terms of loading capacity, assembly time, and maneuverability, both in water and on land. The M3 system is already in use by the armed forces of Germany, the United Kingdom, Taiwan, Singapore, and Indonesia. With a total of more than 1.3 km of bridge length, the Republic of Korea will operate the largest M3 fleet. More information about the M3 Bridge System is available directly from GDELS.
