Combat Vehicles

BOXER production in Great Britain

02/05/2018By Redaktion

The ARTEC consortium has signed agreements with leading British defense companies BAE Systems, Pearson Engineering, and Thales UK to manufacture the armored wheeled vehicle Boxer. If the British Army selects the armored wheeled vehicle as the next-generation Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV), at least 60 percent of the value added and 100 percent of the final assembly of the Boxer will take place in the UK.

ARTEC's investment in the UK is estimated to secure or create at least 1,000 jobs. The British partnership approach ensures that British companies will be fully integrated into the vehicle's supply chain. In addition to Rolls Royce and Parker-Hannifin, WFEL, a subsidiary of Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW), and other British subsidiaries of the ARTEC parent companies KMW and Rheinmetall will also participate in the project.

In addition, Rheinmetall intends to build a modern armored vehicle manufacturing and integration center in the UK as part of the program. This commitment ensures long-term capacity for the production and maintenance of armored vehicles in the UK.
Between 1999 and 2004, the UK played an important role in the construction, development, and testing of the Boxer. In an acquisition, the UK would regain the rights it held as the original project partner, enabling the Boxer to have export opportunities under British law.

The Boxer meets all key requirements of the British Army. Its high mobility, wide range of capabilities, and maximum protection for vehicle occupants make it an ideal solution for the British Army. With around 700 vehicles already delivered or ordered, the Boxer has long set the standard for vehicles of its class in European NATO countries.
