Books & more: SAS Ultimate Guide to Combat

05/29/2012By Redaktion

Robert Stirling's personal story is impressive: at 16 he joined the British Army, and by 19 he was one of the youngest members of the SAS. He gained practical experience in bush warfare in Rhodesia, and also served with the elite Reconnaissance Commandos of the South African Army. Today, he lives in the UK and prepares units for deployment in Afghanistan. His book titled "SAS Ultimate Guide to Combat" seems to fit right in. Much of the content can be found in various military manuals – camp building, attack and defense, and weapons knowledge are all covered.

But here, everything is a bit different. It is enriched by Stirling's extensive military experience and the many practical tips and anecdotes woven into the text. This makes the book a very good guide from which one can learn a lot, and a highly entertaining read. By the way, keeping up with modern times, there is also an iPad app for the book.

"SAS Ultimate Guide to Combat (General Military)", by Robert Stirling, Osprey Publishing, 2012, 344 pages. The book is available in bookstores or on Amazon for € 16.95.
