Peter R. Neumann is a scientist in the field - he conducts security studies and directs the International Center for the Study of Radicalisation - but as a former journalist he can bring facts down to the ground so that normal people can understand them. And so this book is a great summary of the history of modern jihadism, from Afghanistan to al-Qaeda, from the emergence of the Islamic State and its structures, the phenomenon of foreign fighters and the role of religious doctrines behind it, such as Salafism. Easy reading and yet very dense, this book announces "the next wave of terrorism" that is currently rolling.
