There are so many books. And for certain topics, there are several titles that allow you to explore a topic through reading. That's a good thing. Reading educates, as they say. So where is the opposite? Here! A book where (almost) everything is said. "Expedition - Wilderness Trekking" is the title, and between the first and last page, there is so much inside that you can read it again and again. You should treat yourself to it.
Before we tell you what's all in there, we'd rather show you the small print table of contents...
... and the second double page of table of contents...
... and the third double page of the table of contents.
In short: you can expect this, written in tight lines, compiled in dense texts. The experiences you have to make yourself, the book can't replace. But otherwise, there is really a lot of well-founded knowledge in it. Shortcut is when you can learn from others.
Simple example: For example, the book explains the geographic regions you can venture into. From mountains to deserts.
And someone shares their experiences with you in expedition preparation, shows how to create a good checklist. How planning works in practice. Not that you have to do it that way, but being shown saves time and money. Choose the good from the book.
Essentially, it's about the topic of orientation. Working with a map is a given when you know what you're doing and that the GPS always fails when you need it. This is about basic foundational work.
Net dividers and protractors, map rulers, and folding techniques for maps. All inconspicuous tools with which map work is done. Clearly explained and - if you want - really included with the book.
The basics of climbing and rope work are also explained.
And the summary of the basics of first aid for trekking and expedition is concise and precise. It's worth having the book for all these varied chapters - and referring to it again and again.
The last page: this is how the author explains his work.
These are 352 packed pages of compact knowledge.
CONCLUSION: A standardized work. Really! This book should be in your adventure library and in no adventure library at all. And we're not just saying this. This book MUST be owned if you deal with outdoor topics. It is described in small print. Overflowing, densely packed, so much to learn, all those inspirations. You can always pick it up and read it profitably. Treat yourself to it.
Extras: magnifying glass, map protractor, ruler ... if desired.
Matthias Hake, “Expedition - Wilderness Trekking. Planning, Leadership, Knowledge, Equipment,” September 2015, Self-published, 352 pages, 24.90 for the book alone. Issue with map protractor costs 39.80.
HERE you can find the book on the author's eBay page.
