The U.S. Army Center of Military History has released a comprehensive two-volume publication detailing the Army's operations in Afghanistan from 2001 to 2014.
When it's over, it's history. A new publication from the U.S. Army Center of Military History describes at the operational level how the U.S. Army formed, trained, deployed, and employed its forces in Afghanistan from October 2001 to December 2014: "Modern War in an Ancient Land: The United States Army in Afghanistan, 2001 - 2014" is a two-volume work of the Operation Enduring Freedom Study Group.
These two publications are the result of an extensive research program, in which dozens of key military and civilian leaders were interviewed orally. The volumes include a total of fifty maps, a wide range of campaign photographs. The first volume (436 pages) covers the period from 2001 to 2005, while the second volume (580 pages) covers the period from 2005 to 2014. We hope that a third volume will come, covering the six years up to 2021. Then everything would be summarized - from the American perspective.
HERE you can download the two books for free.
