eichenblattIn 1813, the liberation wars against Napoleon culminated in the victory of the anti-French coalition in the Battle of Nations in Leipzig. Napoleon's "Grande Armée" was forced to retreat from Germany. Napoleon's German allies changed sides. However, despite the often invoked "German uprising" against Napoleon since 1813, there was no such thing. Carried by protagonists of German Romanticism, this legend became a central theme in the perception of the liberation wars. The special exhibition "Bloody Romanticism - 200 years of liberation wars against Napoleon" at the Military History Museum of the Bundeswehr in Dresden brings this dramatic and violence-prone era to life once again with over 500 exhibits. In a separate, spectacular room, the exhibition titled "Tin Soldiers Do Not Bleed" shows how the theme was processed through miniature figures and models. The spectrum ranges from "dioramas" and "vignettes" dating back up to 200 years from the era to the recent past. These objects are presented in a room designed to resemble Napoleon's headquarters tent. Due to its great success, the exhibition has been extended until March 3, 2014.
