The companies IMeasureU and Myriota receive nearly 500,000 euros in funding from the Australian Ministry of Defence to develop a Black Box for soldiers. It is intended to, like in an airplane, record critical data, including data on their equipment and protective gear.

In case of emergencies, the system should serve as a distress signal to help soldiers be located and evacuated more quickly. Ideally, the data should be transmitted in real-time. How this will be implemented, including encrypted communication to prevent the enemy from locating the soldiers, is not yet clear. An example can be seen in the cover image, which shows the IMU Sensor from IMeasureU, which is already available.
