Better living with Rheinmetall

09/17/2021By Redaktion

Rheinmetall has received a framework contract from the Bundeswehr for the project "Provision of Accommodation in Operations". The agreement was signed in August 2021 with the Federal Office for Infrastructure, Environmental Protection and Services of the Bundeswehr (BAIUDBw). This makes Rheinmetall available as a reliable partner for the German Armed Forces to also construct, operate, and potentially dismantle operational infrastructure in the future. Rheinmetall is one of three companies selected by the Bundeswehr as strategic partners for accommodation in operations. The contract begins upon signing and has a basic term of four years with an option for three one-year extensions. During this time, Rheinmetall is committed to providing services through individual call-offs.

The recent selection as a partner for the provision of accommodation in operations (UiE) is part of the "German Armed Forces Contractor Augmentation Program (G-CAP)".

This project, initiated by BAIUDBw, aims to enable commercial service providers to provide stationary accommodation in operations. With this program, the Bundeswehr is following a global trend, as many other armed forces and organizations allow service providers to deliver such services. Experts estimate a global annual revenue of around 350 billion euros in this market segment.

Against this backdrop, Rheinmetall is restructuring its operations in an international key market. The Düsseldorf-based company has established its own subsidiary, Rheinmetall Project Solutions GmbH, to consolidate resources and capabilities for operational support. The goal is to provide long-term support to customers in their missions through specific services. The new business field is also expected to expand internationally through increased collaboration with Rheinmetall Canada and its specialized technological expertise.

Initial successes include not only the G-CAP framework contract but also a recent service contract won by Rheinmetall Project Solutions GmbH for the comprehensive monitoring of a field camp using a surveillance aerostat balloon.

Dr. Deniz Akitürk, Managing Director of Rheinmetall Project Solutions GmbH: "We are delighted with this success and proud to have been chosen as a partner by the Bundeswehr for operations and missions in the field of infrastructure services. We can assure our customers that the name Rheinmetall stands for the highest reliability, performance, and flexibility in this new business field."

G-CAP aims to create an additional option for operational infrastructure through the commercial sector, in order to conserve the Bundeswehr's own resources for high-threat situations. Accommodation in operations is considered a fundamental military capability and includes everything from setting up a field camp to establishing a permanent operational infrastructure. This includes facilities such as accommodations, water supply, power generation, catering, waste management, and cleaning services.
