Australia goes Multicam

12/06/2010By Redaktion

“Special Forces soldiers say this is the uniform they want to wear,” Australian Defense Minister Jason Clare explained in mid-November. “The pattern camouflages in built-up areas, in the desert, and in green areas. It helps our troops do their job.” With this, he announced that Multicam, which has been seen on Australian SOFs in Afghanistan repeatedly, is being extensively tested and will soon be introduced for use in Afghanistan. This means that the traditional two Australian camouflage patterns have been circumvented: AUSCAM (seen in the image below at the back left) and the desert pattern DPCU (the two men in the foreground). The Australians were about to introduce a hybrid type of these two patterns specifically for the Afghanistan mission: Disruptive Pattern Midpoint Uniform (lying on the ground in the foreground) will likely quickly disappear in favor of Multicam. The Australian Ministry of Defense is currently exploring options for licensed manufacturing of Multicam equipment in Australia.
