Combat Vehicles

The Scarabée from Arquus comes from France.

07/09/2019By Redaktion

The Scarabée is unusual. It is manufactured by Arquus, formerly known as Renault Trucks Defense, which in turn is part of the Volvo Trucks Group. Arquus has recently developed an armored vehicle that is - surprise - fast, quiet, and very agile. Moving images can be found in the video in the opener ...

It has two engines (300 HP diesel, 100 HP electric), can be remote controlled, and can transport around two tons of equipment. This includes weapons that can be mounted on the roof, such as an M2 Browning or a 30mm cannon, and more.

All-wheel drive, the front and rear axles can be controlled together or independently. This makes it extremely agile and able to better navigate out of dangerous situations or avoid obstacles. The Scarabée is of course also robust to provide protection against mines and IEDs. Special protection is given to the engines and batteries. The engines are located at the back and can be completely replaced in just 45 minutes according to the manufacturer's statement. Additionally, the Scarabée can also be dropped from a low altitude by an airplane.

By 2025, the French Army plans to renew around 730 light armored vehicles. The Scarabée is currently one of the favorites. By the way: Scarabée is the French name for Scarabaeus. Sounds great, by the way, the insect is called a dung beetle in English. Well, they didn't get it that wrong...
