Since the Vienna terrorist attack, interest in Rapid Response Forces has increased in Europe and US. Austria implemented the system on 09/01/2021, combining readiness units and rapid intervention groups for quicker police response.

Since the terrorist attack on November 2, 2020 in Vienna, there has been a great interest in Europe and among US police in the system of "Rapid Response Forces". In Austria, it was rolled out nationwide on September 1, 2021.

"The project of 'Rapid Response Forces' was rolled out nationwide on September 1, 2021. It is based on two pillars, the readiness unit and the rapid intervention groups," said Interior Minister Karl Nehammer on October 10, 2021 in Vienna. The success of the Vienna Alarm Department task force has therefore been implemented throughout Austria. "We are creating an internationally recognized operational concept that bridges the gap between patrol duty and the Cobra/DSE special forces, because especially in situations of moderate threat or in the case of a terrorist attack, police forces will be even faster on the scene in the future."

Ensuring security also means further developing structures, emphasized the Interior Minister. "The current threat situations require units that can be on the scene quickly with special equipment and training - the rapid intervention groups follow this principle exactly." In plain terms: well-equipped specialists are always on the move or ready and can intervene quickly if something happens.
