Andres Industries: DTNVS exclusive in Germany

02/23/2021By Redaktion

The Berlin company Andres Industries AG is now offering the brand-new night vision goggles DTNVS for civilian users in Germany for the first time. Previously, this high-end device was only available to authorities. The binocular night vision device developed in Europe currently outperforms even the most successful US night vision technology. Weighing just 445g, the DTNVS from ACTinBlack is currently the lightest in its class. Its carbon fiber-reinforced polycarbonate housing, with pronounced ribs, makes it even more robust than others, meeting the strict US MIL810G standard.

Of course, night vision devices are no different from other optical devices. What matters are the internal values. And it is precisely here that the DTNVS manages to outperform many of its competitors.

The manufacturer ACT is able to customize the device specifically to the needs of its customers. Each device is manufactured with the buyer's desired components. A novelty is that now amplifier tubes of the 3rd generation beyond FOM 2600 are available for this purpose. The FOM value is a quality criterion for the performance of image intensifier tubes. It is the product of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and image resolution. The higher the value, the better the performance. For comparison, the currently best night vision devices offered for hunting have a performance of approximately FOM 1800.

For many users, this level of performance is sufficient, as higher FOM values are only partly achieved by a stronger illumination, but rather by a higher image resolution. Therefore, people with 100% or less visual acuity practically have no advantages with a particularly high FOM value. Acquiring such technology is only worthwhile for users who feel that their current night vision goggles would benefit from being sharper.

Therefore, the very expensive tubes will continue to be mostly reserved for police and military special units. Only when larger quantities are produced as part of large orders, some of them may enter the civilian market.

If you are considering configuring the DTNVG at Andres Industries with the maximum equipment, i.e., with FOM 2600 tubes, expect a price of over €35,000. However, this includes additional exciting innovations. For instance, the special eyepiece offers a particularly large eye box. This means that the eye has a much larger area where it can be positioned behind the device. This allows for a more comfortable and less fatiguing use even over extended periods.

CONCLUSION: Whether you opt for the entry-level version (approx. €11,000) or the expensive top-of-the-line variant, in any case, you should take the opportunity to get advice from the sales team at Andres Industries AG beforehand. It is also recommended to attend the night vision workshops held in Berlin. Here, the devices can be tried out in direct comparison.

The ACTinBlack DTNVS can only be ordered directly from Andres Industries in Germany. The device can be configured with different tubes.
