ANDRES INDUSTRIES: 1,000 thermal imaging devices for the Czech Republic

08/25/2023By Redaktion

The Czech Armed Forces are receiving over 1000 thermal imaging devices of the type TigIR™ and TILO™ from Berlin production. The Czech army is moving up orders by two years.

The framework contract from 2022, which foresaw call-offs until the end of 2025, is being terminated early by the call-off of the total quantities by the end of 2023. ANDRES INDUSTRIES has been entrusted by the Czech Ministry of Defense with the delivery of the remaining 561 TigIR-M™ attachments by the end of 2023. This constitutes a follow-on order to a procurement project of similar volume already successfully completed in the spring.

The crucial role of state-of-the-art thermal imaging technology in current conflict situations is clearly illustrated by the ongoing Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. In this context, numerous Eastern European NATO member states are comprehensively updating their night combat capabilities.

Czech paratroopers rely on the combination of TigIR™ and TILO™

The partnership between the Czech Armed Forces and Andres Industries is reaching a new high. After intensive testing by airborne units in 2021 of nearly 80 devices of types TigIR™ and TILO™, the delivery of a first batch of an additional 400 TigIR-M™ attachments and TILO-M™ thermal imaging goggles took place in early 2023.

The current order of 561 devices marks a milestone in the corporate history of Andres Industries. The achievement of a total of 1000 devices to a single customer demonstrates the quality and reliability of the products from Berlin as well as the progress continuously achieved in the development of state-of-the-art thermal imaging technology.

Innovative technology for versatile use

The close collaboration with the Czech Armed Forces allowed for a "tailored" adaptation of the devices according to specific requirements. The compactness and modularity of the world's smallest thermal imaging goggles, TILO™, allow for direct use on the helmet or as an attachment in front of various target optics. In contrast, the TigIR™ is a thermal imaging target or attachment device that, despite a range of up to three kilometers, is extremely compact and lightweight. The short design of both devices is ideal for use on machine guns, which generally offer limited space for additional mounting surfaces.

Therefore, the Czech units have opted to upgrade their FN-MINIMI® inventories. The TILO™ combined with a special mount for the ELCAN Specter 1-4x DR is used with the FN MINIMI® 5.56 versions, while the TigIR™ will support the stronger variants in caliber 7.62 x 51 NATO in the future.

It is speculated that after the comprehensive equipment of the machine gunners, the equipment of sniper rifles and assault rifles will now be tackled. ANDRES INDUSTRIES also offers powerful and compact solutions with BeaIR™ or PumIR™ in this area.

Especially in times of crisis, medium-sized German companies prove to be reliable providers of urgently needed materials. The order is further evidence of the ability of smaller companies to deliver high-quality and powerful products in a short time. This procurement concept has proven to be extremely successful. Other NATO states are already looking to this model and planning to purchase AIAG devices on a comparable scale.
