Always ready! The 2-cartridge thing

Sometimes it's the little things that bring noticeable benefits. When the weapon is emptied without being able to target, one wishes to have an additional cartridge quickly at hand. With the 2-cartridge-thing and some practice, this is achievable.

The idea is not new or particularly exciting. However, there has been no direct source in Germany for such cartridge holders. Akademie 0/500 has closed this gap in cooperation with md-Textil.Construction

A 38mm webbing band is sewn with a rubber band that can hold two .308 Winchester caliber or similar cartridges. At the bottom, there is hook and loop fastener. The loop part can be self-adhered to the stock of a rifle.

There are also known versions on the market that have three cartridge loops. However, the webbing would be too wide at 57mm for some weapons, such as the slender stock of a Tikka T3.

The rubber loop is 50mm long and covers most of the stored cartridge (at least in .308 caliber). This provides a certain protection against contamination.

The attachment is very simple. The surface must be clean, grease- and dust-free. Treatment with a degreasing agent is recommended. There may be a conflict with weapons with Krylon-sprayed surfaces, as the color layer may dissolve with nitro-based thinners. The recommended processing temperature of min. 17 °C should not be exceeded. In addition, the loop fastener should be firmly pressed from the center outward.

In the practical test, these recommendations were deliberately disregarded. A "Krylon-enhanced" weapon was not degreased and the processing temperature was significantly below 17 °C. Nevertheless, the adhesive on the loop fastener was sufficient to securely attach the 2-cartridge-thing to the weapon.Application

The 2-cartridge-thing is adhered directly under the ejection port on the stock of the rifle and loaded with two cartridges. When the magazine is empty but target needs to be engaged, the shooter can pull a cartridge from the loop and manually reload directly through the ejection port. This restores firing readiness faster than with a magazine change. This dexterity should be regularly integrated into training.
