With the completion of extensive loading, the multinational exercise Quadriga 2025 has reached a central milestone. All personnel and the necessary equipment have been successfully loaded and are ready for transportation by sea to Lithuania. Securing and protecting this strategic sea transport of forces to Lithuania utilizing civilian and military defense-critical infrastructure, including the required security measures, is the focus of Quadriga 2025.
In total, six roll-on/roll-off ships have been loaded with vehicles of the Panzergrenadier Brigade 37 by the logistics command of the Bundeswehr's logistics center at the Rostock port. Medical troops, communications troops, the brigade staff company, armored pioneer battalion, tank, Panzergrenadier, and armored artillery battalions have transported their wheeled vehicles to the ferry port over a week. Soldiers of the cargo handling companies took over here to arrange the trucks and armored vehicles, sorting them in a way that they can be brought onboard and secured for sea travel in the shortest possible time after the arrival of the ships.
The land marches of the army units and formations spanned two days prior. The troops overnighted at a Convoy Support Centre (CSC), essentially a military rest area. This was set up and operated by the Bundeswehr Service Centre and Logistics Battalion 172 at the Ziethen Barracks in Beelitz. At a CSC, vehicles are refueled, any damages are repaired, and they are prepared for the onward journey. The troops are also provided everything they need to rest: food, accommodation, and, if necessary, medical care.
The troops express their gratitude to the public and especially to all road users on the march routes for their patience when the marching columns slowed down traffic with their reduced speeds. Importantly: No accidents occurred.
The exercise impressively demonstrates the logistical performance required for a large-scale deployment of armed forces. Vehicles, equipment, and personnel must be coordinated and moved on roads, rails, and seas within tight timeframes – a complex task that can only be mastered through precise planning and close cooperation among all participating forces of all dimensions.
As part of the Quadriga 2025 exercise series, a naval formation, accompanied by security vehicles, will be present in the area between the overseas port and the shipping canal on Thursday, September 4, 2025, and will subsequently leave the harbor area.
The maneuver may lead to temporary traffic restrictions in this area of the shipping lane between 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM. The measure has been coordinated between the Waterways and Shipping Office of the Baltic Sea and the German Navy and will not affect regular ferry traffic.
Commercial shipping and recreational boating are requested to avoid the area during this time, to keep a safe distance from the naval formation and the ships at sea, and to pay attention to announcements from the traffic control center Warnemünde "Warnemünde Traffic" (VHF channel 73).
Furthermore, the Bundeswehr requests that attention be paid to acoustic and visual signals from naval units as well as official vehicles and to follow their instructions.
Additionally, there may be noise from the flyover of two Eurofighters. The aircraft belong to the exercise and are securing the airspace over Rostock.
