All want ROSY

Rheinmetall's Rapid Obscuration System ROSY gains traction with two NATO countries adopting it for new vehicle families, totaling in the mid-single-digit million euro range. Two NATO countries have opted for Rheinmetall's Rapid Obscuration System ROSY to protect their new vehicle families. This establishes the versatile and modular system further in the market. The total value of both orders is in the mid-single-digit million euro range.

Delivery of 126 systems to the Spanish manufacturer URO Vehiculos Especiales S.A. (UROVESA) will begin in April 2019. These systems will be installed in 126 of the 139 protected patrol vehicles of the VAMTAC type, which the Portuguese armed forces procured through the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) in July 2018. Deliveries will be completed in March 2020.

In May 2019, the pre-series delivery for another order from Belgium will start. Here, Rheinmetall is a subcontractor to the British company Jankel on the Light Troop Transport Vehicle (LTTV) project for the Belgian army. All 199 vehicles will be prepared for system integration, in addition, control units and launchers for 167 vehicles will be delivered. Series production will begin in February 2020 and will be completed in the same year.

With these two orders, Rheinmetall's Rapid Obscuration System ROSY is now in operation in eleven countries. ROSY provides protection against shelling by making vehicles invisible to the opponent through a screen of fog. Unlike conventional smoke protection systems, it can create dynamic fog walls in addition to spontaneous, large-area and multispectral line-of-sight interruption, thus protecting moving objects for a long time.

The multi-mission capability of the protection system with 360° all-round protection ensures defense against multiple attacks (stream and wave attacks). Through effective screening measures in the visual and infrared spectrum including integrated IR jamming and decoying effects, all TV, EO, IR, IIR, LASER, and SACLOS guided weapons can be effectively repelled.

ROSY is available in different variants. ROSY_L is basically suitable for all vehicles and includes as a basic system one control unit per vehicle as well as one to four launchers, which can each accommodate one, two or three magazines depending on the version. The modular variant ROSY_Mod is suitable for small weapon stations and small vehicles, such as those used by special forces. ROSY_Mod can be integrated into the vehicle directly - without a launcher - and thus invisibly. ROSY_N was specially developed for the navy and coast guard for the effective protection of smaller units.
